Southern Pond (Qi-Nan) National Forest Amusement Area
Reserving the old time lumber machinery to witness the forestry development in Taiwan
Southern Pond National Forest Amusement Area is located at the west-southern side of Li-Yu Lake. It was the lumber zone of papaya forest under the supervision of Forestry Bureau. From Japanese colony time, it is the important transfer point of lumber production in Eastern Taiwan. By the time when the lumber production period finished, this area was turned into forest amusement area. By keeping the lumber machinery in the past, Taiwan’s forestry keeps its historical demonstration at the venue. The venue still keeps the small train, which was used to transport lumber and now has become the bumpy cart to transport travelers. This is one key specialty of this area.
Forestry Exhibition Hall has presentation visual room and display room on the first floor. The second floor is the forestry administration office and display room showing not only different kinds of lumber machinery, but also Taiwan’s multi-target management process of the ecosystem awareness education for the citizens.
